Big Mac's Wholly Soul Band
The band was formed in 1990 as the resident band for the Hollywood Club, Newport. Within months of the
Commitments film release, similarities and comparisons
were made as both acts were inundated with offers of
live engagements because of their specializing in R&B
Soul music. On several occasions the two acts met
where Big Mac would open for The Commitments.
Very soon to follow, were the offers of live work that not
only took place in the UK, but internationally, and Big
Mac toured Europe and performed to audiences in
Austria, Egypt, Germany, Tenerife and Dublin. Also
venues as diverse as London’s The Café Royal and
Marquee Club. Such far and reaching appeal is witness
to the band’s popularity, adaptability and versatility.
They have supported or shared the bill with acts such as
Billy Ocean, Edwin Starr, Jools Holland, Van Morrison,
Earth Wind & Fire, Sister Sledge, Gabrielle, Jimmy James, The Real Thing, Odyssey, Paul Young, Craig Charles, Ruby Turner, Omar, Rozalla, Gwen Dickey (Rose Royce), Sheila Ferguson (The Three Degrees), Pato Banton, The Pasadenas, Jaki Graham and many more. Big Mac has written and recorded with Wilson Pickett’s daughter Veda.
